Meeting Report 30-November-22

At the Kingsley Hotel, our chairman welcomed us all to the first in-person monthly meeting in several years. 19 members attended, 2 of them via Zoom.

The following items were discussed:

  • Preparation for the AGM
    • The chairman’s, treasurer’s and secretary’s reports will be posted on our website on 19th December, prior to the AGM.
    • Venues are being investigated for the lunch and AGM – with Bunratty Manor and Acton’s Kinsale as options (with requirement of a private room for the AGM). And many thanks to Jackie and John for offering to host the event at their house also.
    • The date earmarked for the AGM is 22nd January 2023
  • The club insurance will be organised through broker SBB Insurances with Chubb, and will be covered out of current club funds.
  • A preference was expressed for in-person monthly meetings, possibly combined with a run.
  • Possible events for consideration at the AGM:
    • A suggestion was made of introducing breakfast runs.
    • Preference expressed for two overnight events, one in April, the other in September as usual.
    • South Eastern Technological University runs a classic car restoration course. They hold a classic car show in July each year. It could be interesting to attend.
    • Rodney mentioned that Johnstown Castle is open again, also recommended staying in Ferrycarrig Hotel for an overnight event.
    • Mary made a few suggestions:
      • Whitford House Hotel as a good accommodation option for an event in that part of the country.
      • Kerry for an event – visiting Tom Crean’s grave and the North Pole Inn, staying in Benner’s Hotel in Dingle.
      • Staying in Leenane Hotel in Connemara, visiting Kylemore.
    • John O’D suggested Swiss Cottage in Cahir as a destination for an event.
    • It appears that the car show in Terenure may happen in 2023, as listed on the IJDC’s website.
    • Paddy suggested attending events as a club. That generated a discussion, and several members expressed a preference for driving events over static shows. The Youghal event is a good example of one that combines both – driving on Saturday, static show on Sunday.
    • There was a request for technical evenings. Larry has done a lot of work recently on his Mk2, and gave us a teaser. He might be persuaded to arrange a talk around February.
    • Suggesting of a trip to Annes Grove Gardens, Castletownroche, which we had attempted unsuccessfully to arrange in 2022.
