Report and Photos from Ballylickey Event

Ballylickey September 2020

I’m delighted to be able to report that our only overnight event took place on Saturday and Sunday the 5th & 6th September at our club’s favourite location, Ballylickey, Co. Cork.

In order to comply with Government and HSE regulations our group was greatly reduced as we were restricted as to the number of members staying in the hotel and of course we were unable to invite our friends from the IJDC who always added greatly to the enjoyment of the weekend. Apologies to those who could not be with us, but I’m sure you will understand that the welfare and safety of everyone is paramount. Those who could stay Friday night dined in the hotel at socially distanced tables for a maximum of 6, while that is unusual for us we did so without any dissenting voices.

Saturday morning we were joined by the rest of the group and we set off at 11am and drove the tunnel road to Kenmare, parking at our usual spot. As we couldn’t eat as a group we walked into town and dispersed around the various establishments in Kenmare of which there were many. We re-grouped at 1.45pm and drove over the Healy Pass, on to Adrigole and finally back to The Seaview House Hotel, Ballylickey where we dined on Saturday night again at tables for a maximum of 6.

Sunday morning following our tour guide Michael we drive back via Crookstown, Inishannon and to Kinsale where we parked and again split up to visit the town and its lovely shops and restaurants. For many members this weekend formed part of their annual holidays and staycation which is being encouraged by the Government.

We were very lucky with the weather and had sunshine all weekend which has been in short supply this summer. Apologies to those who could not be with us and thank you to those who came along and helped to make the event most enjoyable. Once again thanks to Michael for all his efforts and geographical knowledge.

Keep safe.
John
