Terenure Car Show 2017 Report

26th Classic & Vintage Motor Show Terenure July 2017

Once again our club took a stand at the Terenure Show and as in many years in the past we were fortunate in getting a car over from the Jaguar and Daimler Heritage Trust in the U.K. This year the car we chose was the XJ6C 5.3 Broadspeed, with 550BHP it proved to be a great success and as in the past the two volunteers Stuart McEvoy and Rodger Atkinson accompanied the car. This year Spirit Motor Company (our friendly Jaguar dealer) is in the process of a major re-furbishment at their Arena Road showroom and, although this was going on, the Broadspeed was at the showrooms on the Friday and Saturday before the show.

Our members assembled on the Saturday at mid-day and had a first viewing of this very iconic car. From there we went to Terenure to arrange the stand for Sunday morning. The usual dinner on Saturday night and with the cars cleaned and polished it was an early start on Sunday morning as the show opened to the public at 11am.

Weather plays a very important part in the show and this year we were not disappointed, the day was ideal, warm and sunny. It was estimated that 1500 cars took part and more than 15,000 members of the public attended. A great success overall. Stuart and Rodger were invited to the arena area to speak about the Broadspeed and Larry was asked to speak about his wonderful MK2 restoration, both spoke eloquently of the cars’ history.

John and David from Northern Ireland joined us again this year with their two lovely cars, a series 1 E-Type and a series 3 E-Type. Of course we also had Michael’s E-Type and my own. Rodney, although with us on the Saturday, was unable to attend on Sunday due to a bereavement. Pat and David O’Brien from Limerick brought their relatively new addition to their fleet, a magnificent Daimler series 3. David has over the past year done some great work on improving it and it is now a great example of that marque. Jonathan made an appearance on a You Tube channel called the Sunday service on which he spoke about his MK2 (worth watching). Barry and Margaret brought along their fantastic XJS, the car they brought to Windsor with us in May. John O’ brought his relatively recent purchase, that of a lovely S-Type.

Thanks to everyone for the help in making this once again a great weekend and a great show which we all enjoyed very much. Our thanks to our friends in the IJDC and congratulations on a very successful show.
